What is ozone?
You may already be familiar with this concept, but just in case, a brief note: Ozone is an allotropic variety of oxygen, its triatomic molecule (O3) is generated by the activation of the O2 molecule of oxygen. This activation can be caused by the irradiated energy of the ultraviolet rays, or by the action of an electrical discharge. And because ozone cannot be stored or transported, it must be generated in situ.
Applying ozone to a vineyard
Using an ozone generator, for various reasons, is an optimal solution for deodorization and sterilization in warehouses. It is a perfect system to deodorize and sterilize the following:
- All tanks, whether cement, oak or stainless steel.
- The machinery and tools that intervene in the production of wine.

- The danger of using cleaning products or bactericides, whose remains can alter the composition of the wine or be toxic to the consumer, is eliminated.
Due to its properties, ozone is also used in warehouses to establish ideal environmental conditions, eliminating annoying odors, bacteria, germs, fungi and viruses, both floating in the air and embedded in materials and surfaces. The feeling of rarefied air is also avoided.
Applied to bottling companies, the action of an ozone machine significantly reduces the costs of water, energy and chemical products consumption, such as disinfectants, thus contributing to an improvement in environmental sustainability.
Ozone, in addition, generates a purer and fresher environment, which translates into a higher quality of life, since it eliminates pollutants of organic and inorganic origin, creating a more pleasant and clean atmosphere, avoiding suffering the typical disorders of the wineries (conjunctivitis, stinging eyes, irritation of mucous membranes, dizziness, headaches, allergies, pharyngitis …).
